Greetings from Ma'ayan's New Director

Ma'ayan is delighted to welcome our new Director, Ilana Bercuson! Click here to read Ilana's bio.

Dear friends,
In Pirkei Avot 4:14, Rebbi Nehorai says, "Exile yourself to a place of Torah, and do not say that it will come after you, that your colleagues will help you to retain it."
For a year after college, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn full-time for a year at Nishmat in Jerusalem. Once I came back to America, I experienced the challenges that we all face in continuing our learning outside of a formal educational structure. There are family and work obligations that take up our time, with seemingly no hours left to "exile ourselves to a place of Torah." To learn takes determination. At Ma'ayan, I see you - our students - setting aside precious hours of your busy schedules to attend a one-time lecture or even a semester- or year-long course. Your passion and love of learning inspires me.
How fortunate we are to live in a community - one of the few outside of Israel! - with a robust infrastructure for women's text-based learning. It is a true privilege for me to join the Ma'ayan family as the new Director.
